Sage's bottomless portafilter for its machines with a 58 mm group. Without spouts you see the espresso leave the basket, and with it whether the water passes evenly through the coffee.
A bottomless portafilter does not change the coffee; it shows what is happening. If the espresso sprays to one side or comes in thin jets, the water is finding an easy path through the bed. That is channeling, and it points at the grind, the distribution or the tamp.
It only fits machines with a 58 mm group. Most Sage machines are 54 mm; Sage sells a separate version for those.
