EssentialDescaler
Limescale is what most machines die of, and vinegar attacks the seals. A liquid descaler declared suitable for espresso machines does the same job as the maker’s own branded fluid, usually for less.

The tablets Melitta prescribes for the cleaning programme of its bean-to-cups. Its manual allows no other tablets.
What to look out for
In the Barista Smart T manual Melitta prescribes a cleaning programme with a tablet every two months, and only with these Perfect Clean tablets. Using another product puts the warranty at risk, according to Melitta.
Melitta says the tablets remove coffee oils and fats from the brew group. They do nothing about scale: the machine has a separate descaling programme for that.
